We are thrilled to welcome Adovich S. Rivera, MD, PhD, who joins the faculty of Northwestern University Department of Medical Social Sciences (MSS) as an Assistant Professor under the Team Science track in the Division of Implementation Science.

Ado holds both a medical degree from the University of the Philippines and a PhD from Northwestern University, solidifying a unique background combining medical expertise with advanced research in health sciences.

Before Northwestern, Ado was a postdoctoral researcher at Kaiser Permanente Southern California, where his work focused on HIV epidemiology, sexual and gender minority health, and health systems research. Ado also earned his PhD in Health Services and Outcomes Research at Northwestern, with a specific focus on HIV research under the mentorship of Matt Feinstein, MD, MSc, and Lauren Beach, PhD, JD.

His research interests lie at the intersection of health disparities, chronic disease, aging, and causal inference. Passionate about reducing disparities through health systems interventions, he brings valuable experience from his time at Kaiser Permanente, where he explored the implementation of health system interventions, including social risk screening and social determinants of health.

In this new role, Ado looks forward to fostering collaborations with faculty and mentoring graduate students. He will continue ongoing partnerships with colleagues such as Matt Feinstein and Lauren Beach, but looks forward to establishing new research partnerships as well. His research aims to investigate drivers of health disparities and to understand how social factors influence biological outcomes such as inflammation and aging. He is particularly excited about Northwestern's collaborative culture and the opportunity to contribute to the department's goals through the unique Team Science track. Ado is eager to integrate health systems solutions into research on health disparities, and looks forward expanding his work to include implementation science projects for achieving equity. Welcome, Ado!
